April 2025 Update: Animation Cleanup & Storyboarding

April is here, and time is flying! This month, I documented my animation cleanup process in a timelapse set to relaxing Lofi music. I also tackled storyboarding for Sister Harts, filling 92 panels despite my usual struggles with the process.

Hello all!

Month 4 of 2025 is here, and I'm shocked at how quickly time moves.

March, I recorded cleaning up and coloring a roughly animated shot in TVPaint! The video "Cleanup and Chill" is a timelapse to Lofi and relaxing music. The video is around 1 hour and 15 minutes, but the actual work was around 12 hours over four days.

The art of cleanup is always more involved than expected, which is why I dislike doing it. This month's tutorial is about cleanup animation! This month, I also bought a little notebook from Passenger Paper. I got it because it's unique, it's hand-made, and it has a card with horizontal lines, vertical lines, and a grid to help you format your pages. Usually, when I get a new notebook, I want everything in it to be perfect or at least dedicated to a thing. But this notebook allowed me to be messy and sketchy, cross things out, and just make the thing. In January, I mentioned one of my projects, titled "Sister Harts". I started making thumbs of a scene, and I couldn't stop. I ended up doing the whole episode, which was 92 panels.

Storyboarding is hard; it doesn't come naturally to me, and I'd rather study motion and other animation techniques instead. Being able to draw small, quickly, and imperfectly is a game changer. This isn't sponsored, but I used the small Ooue Notebook if you're curious.

Animation Spotlight: Best Friend

What it’s about: Best Friend evokes season 1 of Black Mirror. It’s a film about connection and addiction.

Why I like it: I’m fond of the visual style, and I think the message (a warning, really) was conveyed well.

Artist Spotlight: Shawna Mills

I found Shawna's art through Blk Wowan Animator's YouTube channel.

She's on most social media as Lazy Mills. Currently, her primary project is Boom Tag X.

Art Tutorial I Like

This month, I released a video of me cleaning up some animation. So, I wanted to share a video about the art animation cleanup.

Kofi! Any support is appreciated. If I can get 10,000 people to donate $1 each, I’ll be able to focus on these projects and still take care of my family. Having said that, if I have my way, I’ll have finished building the official store on the Sleepy Gallows website.
