Women's History Month, Slow Progress, and a Burst of Inspiration

February was a slow but creative month at Sleepy Gallows, with two long-standing shots finally completed for The Elusive Green Elephant. A surprise spark of inspiration led to a new collage piece, while this month's animation and artist spotlights highlight powerful indie creators from around the world.

Happy Women's History Month!

February was a slow month for the Sleepy Gallows, but I finally completed two shots that I had been working on since I began production on the Elusive Green Elephant. Both of these shots were completed with Blender, TVPaint, and Moho Animation. Another reason for the slow progress was a strike of inspiration for a collage piece! A Japanese paper shop, Passenger Paper, opened close to my home. I had to buy some and make something. The Elusive Green Elephant inspires it; below, you will see the flower field.

Once this is complete, I'll make a post completely devoted to the creation process.

Animation Spotlight: The Little Teaspoon of Sugar (2021) // 2D Animated Short Film

What it’s about: The Little Teaspoon of Sugar (2021) // 2D Animated Short Film by Cabblow Studios. Cabblow Studios was created by a South African mother/daughter duo. They create fun and educational videos with a focus on Diabetes.

Why I like it: This short shows some of the struggles a child with Type 1 Diabetes might experience. I think Diabetes is seen more as an adult issue and something that you do to yourself (it’s not that simple of course). However, Type 1 Diabetes isn’t as commonly thought about in the public sphere.

Artist Spotlight: Fernanda Dias

I've been a fan of Fernanda for a while! She is a Brazilian animator working on an independent project called Witch Bunny. Her character animation is amazing, and I can't wait for Witch Bunny to be completed. She posts regular updates on Patreon. You should check out some of your animations!

Art Tutorial I Like

Sophie Jantak makes stylized "2D" in Blender. With her tutorials you'll learn how to keep a painterly style and work primarily with Grease Pencil.

Kofi! Any support is appreciated. If I can get 10,000 people to donate $1 each, I’ll be able to focus on these projects and still take care of my family. Having said that, if I have my way, I’ll have finished building the official store on the Sleepy Gallows website.
